GBIF Call for Proposals: Biodiversity Information for Development (IDB) Program in Pacific Countries

The Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF) is inviting eligible institutions to submit concept notes for the program Biodiversity Information for Development (IDB), funded by the Directorate-General for International Relations of the European Union.

The BID program aims to build capacities for the effective mobilization and use of biodiversity data in support of sustainable development decisions and policies.

The GBIF is an international network and research infrastructure funded by global governments with the aim of providing free access to data to everyone everywhere, all forms of life on Earth.

Program Aims

This call aims to support Pacific projects that:

  • Mobilize relevant biodiversity data for decisions supporting sustainable development
  • Use and extend best practices for digitizing natural history collections and mobilizing other biodiversity data
  • Apply biodiversity data to support decision making and research
  • Develop sustainable national, regional or thematic networks in order to support, in the long term, the sharing and reuse of data

Types of Grants

The call supports four types of grants:

  • Regional Biodiversity Data Mobilization Grants that establish or strengthen international collaborations to increase biodiversity data mobilization to meet regional sustainable development needs (maximum funding: € 60,000 for projects involving two countries or territories; 120,000 € for projects involving three or more countries)
  • National level biodiversity data mobilization grants that establish or strengthen national biodiversity information facilities and increase biodiversity data mobilization to meet national priorities (maximum funding: € 40,000 per project)
  • Grants for the mobilization of data on biodiversity at the level of institutions that mobilize relevant data for sustainable development (maximum funding: € 20,000 per project)
  • Data Use Grants that build on existing relationships between biodiversity data-holding institutions and decision-makers, and provide data solutions that address a specific policy need (maximum funding: € 60,000 by project)

Eligibility Criteria

  • These grants are open to institutions based in eligible Pacific countries and territories.
