Pro Victimis Foundation: Aid of Victims of Natural or Man-made Disasters

Applicants are invited to submit their projects to Pro Victimis Foundation.

Pro Victimis Foundation's mission: Come to the aid of victims of natural or man-made disasters, contribute to the safeguard of human dignity and the protection of vulnerable people. 

The projects Foundation supports are based on the following values:

  • The dignity and equality of human beings, whoever they are.
  • Respect for the law, as defined by the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, international humanitarian law, the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, etc.

Created in Geneva in 1988, Pro Victimis is a private foundation under Swiss public law. It is made up of a Foundation Council  which sets the lines of intervention and decides on the allocation of funds, as well as a Secretariat  which studies and analyzes projects with a view to submitting them to the Council for approval and ensures monitoring of funded projects.

The Foundation favors projects:

  • Placing vulnerable people at the center of activities and making them agents of their change
  • Strengthening the autonomy, capacities and know-how of the most vulnerable communities and people
  • Focusing on forgotten or neglected causes
  • Promoting projects that are led by local actors
  • Thinking outside the box and promoting innovation
  • Promoting holistic approaches
  • Helping to have a systemic effect, i.e. capable of addressing the causes of the problems and not just the consequences
  • Helping to have a lasting impact

Thematic Priorities

  • Gender-based violence: Fight against sexual violence and other types of gender-based violence, with priority given to violence against women.
  • Handicap: Support for the integration and autonomy of people living with disabilities, physical and / or mental.
  • Fundamental rights violations: Fight against serious violations of fundamental rights against vulnerable people due to a specific situation.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Be implemented by a national or international NGO with recognized expertise, proven skills, and assuming direct responsibility for the project. Preference being given to national NGOs, international NGOs should be able to demonstrate their added value.
  • Have previous experience in the field of the project and in international funding
  • Have an annual organizational budget of less than CHF 10 million. By "organizational" we mean national and / or international entities belonging to the same structure
  • The project / program must be co-financed

The Foundation is inclined to support:

  • Medical, psycho-social and economic (re) empowerment for self-construction
  • Work with the authors of GBV
  • Prevention and education for a change of mentality
  • The fight against stigma
  • Local capacity building
  • Accessibility and integration of people living with a physical and / or mental handicap
  • Combating the effects of disabling diseases / syndromes (e.g. fistula, epilepsy, etc.)
  • Strengthening legislation and law enforcement
  • The fight against denial and impunity

In addition, in certain exceptional cases and only if the medium or long-term financial perspectives are encouraging, the coverage of an existing deficit, the granting of start-up financing or the granting of a loan, may be considered. .
