The Compassion in World Farming (CIWF) has announced the 2021 Farm Animals in Asia: Funding the Future.

CIWF is offering three different types of grants to organisations who are invested in improving their region’s farm animal welfare:

• Training Grants: The aim of Compassion in World Farming International training grants is to support individuals and organisations in Indonesia, Japan and South Korea in growing their capacity or to take the first step towards being able to advocate for farmed animals. They welcome applications for training grants in Indonesia, Japan and South Korea. Topics may cover a broad range of areas relevant to farm animal welfare, for example:
  • animal sentience and welfare
  • the impacts of factory farming
  • lobbying, Public Relations and social media
  • campaign planning
  • theories of change
• Organisational Development Grants: The aim of Compassion in World Farming International organisational development grants is to support individuals and organisations in Indonesia, Japan and South Korea in establishing or expanding their ability to advocate for farm animals. They welcome applications for organisational development grants in Indonesia, Japan and South Korea. Areas where you need support may cover a broad range of requirements, for example:
  • theories of change
  • organisational review
  • guidance on registration or creation of an entity
  • business planning
  • fund-raising strategy
  • communications and/or digital presence strategy
  • accounting and financial planning
• Campaigning Grants: The aim of Compassion in World Farming International campaigning grants is to support individuals and organisations in Indonesia, Japan and South Korea in covering the costs of delivering campaigns which advocate for regional, national or local government action. The approach is to improve the lives of farmed animals by work that leads to government/local authority policy through grass roots public pressure, supported by lobbying and advocacy.

Funding Information

• Training Grant of up to US$ 4,000 (£3,000)
• Organisational Development Grant of up to US$ 7,000 (£5,000)
• Campaigning Grant of up to US$9,000 (£7,000)

Farm Animals in Asia: Funding the Future Programme fund

• Projects and programmes that will enable individuals and organisations to support, promote and encourage higher farm animal welfare to change the lives of farm animals 
• Training activities including hiring trainers, venue hire and materials 
• Organisational development including staff salaries, core operational costs, project running costs, non-capitalised goods and equipment 
• Campaigning activities to educate on, highlight and promote the need for higher standards in farm animal welfare

Eligibility Criteria

Eligible Applicants: 

• may be individuals, charities or non-profit organisations who work within areas such as farm animal advocacy, animal advocacy, climate change, environmental protection, or who are looking to take their first steps into improving the lives of farmed animals.
• must be operating or plan to operate activities, programmes, projects and campaigns in Indonesia, Japan and South Korea 
• will ideally have a registered address in Indonesia, Japan and South Korea (applicants registered in other countries but operating in these countries will also be considered) 
• If shortlisted after EOI application, at the request for proposal stage, must be willing to follow a due diligence process undertaken by CIWF (to provide documents to prove identity and legal status (valid registration certificate/governance document) which may include, but not limited to, a bank statement, supporting financial accounts and references (where applicable). 
• will ideally be registered or are seeking to be registered with their operating country’s Charity Commission, National Charities Register, Charity Regulatory Board or equivalent (applies to charitable or non-profit organisations only) 
• must have a bank account (registered in the name of the applicant or organisation) into which grants can be paid 
• must be willing to provide reports on grant delivery, performance and impact 
• must be willing to sign a grant agreement with CIWF and adhere to its terms and conditions for grant delivery and reporting
