The Bureau of International Labor Affairs (ILAB), U.S. Department of Labor (USDOL, or the Department), announces the availability of approximately $11,711,500 total costs (subject to the availability of federal funds) to fund one technical assistance project in the Republic of Kenya, the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), and one other African trade partner country to enhance labor compliance in key export sectors in sub-Saharan Africa. The project objective is to improve compliance with relevant international labor standards and acceptable conditions of work (ACW), with an emphasis on promoting occupational safety and health (OSH) in one or more export-oriented economic sectors, such as the mining and quarrying sector. ILAB leads the U.S. Government’s (USG) efforts to improve working conditions and fight labor exploitation around the world. ILAB’s mission is to promote a fair global playing field for workers in the United States and around the world by enforcing trade commitments, strengthening labor standards, and combating international child labor, forced labor, and human trafficking. Outcomes The project will aim to achieve the following outcomes: Outcome 1: Improved enforcement and compliance assistance services related to relevant labor laws and standards. Outcome 2: Increased access to effective remedies (state-based and non-state-based) to address noncompliance with relevant labor laws and standards. Outcome 3: Strengthened and sustained dialogue amongst relevant stakeholders to improve compliance with relevant labor laws and standards.
