SGP GEF/PMF FEM Program: Call for Projects for Tunisian NGOs

This call for projects is intended for associations / GDA and SMSA that have a conservation intervention in alignment with strategies in the area of MAVA and PMF GEF / UNDP. The expected results of this support are to strengthen the impact and sustainability of existing projects and initiatives in these areas intervention and support the scale-up of exemplary conservation initiatives.

The Global Environment Facility / UNDP Microfinance Program Implemented by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and executed by the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS), the Program Global Environment Facility (GEF) microfinance (PMF ) provides non-governmental organizations and community-based organizations (NGOs / CBOs) in developing countries grants to enable them to meet environmental challenges global, while meeting local sustainable development needs.

This program aims to contribute to the implementation of strategies and plans national actions for the conservation and enhancement of biodiversity, sustainable management of natural resources and mitigation of the effects of climate change. 

Objectives

The partnership between MAVA and PMF GEF / UNDP focuses mainly on granting a first grant of 55,000 USD to one or two standard projects. This project will promote the contribution of communities and CSOs in the implementation of the various policies and strategies developed by Tunisia to ensure environmental sustainability. Priority will be given to supporting initiatives examples that will strengthen the impact and sustainability of existing projects and ensure the replication and scaling up of these initiatives.

The main objectives are to:

  • increase the benefits for the communities through the management and sustainable governance of biodiversity and natural resources; and
  • build the capacity of civil society and community organizations.

  • Conservation and sustainable management of wetlands
  • Sustainable management of land and ecosystems
  • Sustainable management of freshwater sources including integrated management of water resources
  • Cultural conservation practices and support for protected areas and territories of community heritage

Funding Information

Grant amount: Funds available are USD 55,000 to support one or two standard projects with ceilings per project of 50,000 USD.

Duration of execution: 18 months maximum, from February 2021.

Eligibility Criteria

Project proposals must:

  • Fully comply with the guidelines of this call for projects to support the consolidation, strengthening of impact and sustainability, replication and upgrading the scale of exemplary initiatives
  • Take into consideration the national environmental context and be aligned with the objectives of the national strategy for the environment and sustainable development (SNDD);
  • Be consistent and strategic (consistency between the problem to be solved, results, objectives, activities and budget);
  • Be implemented in the landscapes and priority areas defined within the framework of this call for projects
  • Involve local organizations and rely on scientific and technical resources local
  • Rely on community participation in the design, implementation and project evaluation;
  • Take the gender approach into consideration and involve young people
  • Have a clear impact on the community and on landscape conservation;
  • Be the subject of co-financing equivalent to at least 50% of the cost of the project (in kind and in cash);
  • Other criteria: ability of the association to ensure financial and administrative management of quality, need in terms of consolidation, capacity to implement the initiative (capacity to complete the project within a maximum of 18 months)
  • This call for projects is open to Associations / GDA and SMSA under Tunisian law. The objective is to select pilot initiatives to consolidate for a better environmental and socio-economics of the project.
