The U.S. Embassy and Consulates in Brazil are pleased to announce the call for applications for the Studies of the U.S. Institutes for Student Leaders (SUSI) on Education and the Future of Work.
The SUSI is a five-to-six-week academic program designed for foreign undergraduate students, fluent in English, between the ages of 18 and 25 to improve their understanding of the United States and to develop their leadership skills. A total of four (4) Brazilian participants will be selected to join candidates from India, Indonesia, Tunisia, and Nigeria.
The SUSI on Education and the Future of Work will explore how technology, the job economy, and skill-based education are interconnected in the United States. The Institutes will expose participants to global issues in the context of the future of work by examining educational, social, and economic trends. The program includes a four-week academic residency consisting of interactive classroom activities, discussions, lectures, readings, site visits, and workshops; a one-week educational study tour to a different region of the United States; leadership skills building activities; community service; and opportunities to interact with American peers on a college campus.
Using interdisciplinary methodologies, the academic program examines the role of American educational institutions, especially Community Colleges, in preparing American students for the job market in a variety of sectors such as business, technology, science, higher education, the arts and others. Topics may include communications, entrepreneurship, globalization and urbanization, innovation and technology, organizational development and management, development of skills and strategies for updating knowledge. The Institutes also provide opportunities for participants to interact with educational and industry leaders, cultural associations and other key actors. A field trip to another region of the United States complements the academic residency and allows participants to expand their knowledge about technical training in the United States.
The US Embassy and Consulates in Brazil will contact a small number of candidates to request additional documentation and conduct virtual interviews in English. According to the selection policy of the State Department and the US Embassy and consulates in Brazil, candidates who have had little or no experience and travel to the United States and other countries abroad will have preference in the selection process. FOUR (4) Brazilian participants will be selected to join participants from India, Indonesia, Tunisia and Nigeria.
