The Right Livelihood Award Foundation is seeking nominations for 2021 Right Livelihood Award.
The Right Livelihood Award was established in 1980 to “honour and support courageous people solving global problems”. It has become widely known as the 'Alternative Nobel Prize' and there are now 182 Laureates from 72 countries.
The Foundation receives nominations from all around the world. Through this open process, the Foundation acquires a sense of what people around the world perceive as the most urgent problems – and who is working to solve them.
Normally, the Foundation makes three Cash awards and one Honorary Award each year. The cash awards are intended for work in progress or the extension of existing activities; they are never given for personal use.
Cash & Honorary Award
- Typically, the Jury selects recipients for three Cash Awards and one Honorary Award each year.
- The Honorary Award is intended for nominees whose primary need is not cash support but who would benefit from the considerable recognition and publicity, which the Right Livelihood Award generates.
- The Honorary Award may also be applicable in cases where it is not safe for the nominee to receive future funds.
- The Cash awards are intended for work in progress or the extension of existing activities; they are never given for personal use. Each Cash Award is valued at around 1 million Swedish Krona.
Eligibility Criteria
- Any living person or organisation can be nominated for a Right Livelihood Award. There are no restrictions on who may submit a nomination, individuals or organisations can submit a nomination.
- The Foundation does not accept self-nominations, therefore nominations for oneself, close relatives or their own organisations will not be considered for a Right Livelihood Award.
- The Foundation have a strict rule that nominations and nominees for the Right Livelihood Award cannot be publicised. Infringement of this rule will make a nominee liable to disqualification.
- The Foundation ensures that all information provided by nominators and nominees will be stored securely by the Foundation, and used only for the purposes of the nomination.
