U.S. Mission to Indonesia: 2021 Academic Writing Center Support Funds Program

The Embassy of the United States of America in Jakarta is pleased to announce an open competition for eligible higher education institutions (HEIs), research centers, and other nonprofit educational organizations to submit proposals to the 2021 Academic Writing Center (AWC) Support Funds Grant Competition.

Purpose of AWC Support Funds Grants: The Embassy of the United States of America invites proposals for funding to assist in the establishment of academic writing centers at Indonesian HEIs or research centers to support scholarly publication by members of the Indonesian scientific community. Each AWC funded under this assistance award program will serve as a support unit within the host HEI or research center which will provide consultative services to improve academic writing in English as a Foreign Language. By improving written academic English proficiency and increasing publication rates, the AWC will serve to improve overall institutional quality at the host institution.

Funding Information

  • Award Amount (pending availability of funds): $75,000
  • Period of Performance: Up to 12 months

Number of awards anticipated: 3 – 5 awards. Individual awards may range from a minimum of $5,000 to a maximum of $25,000. 

Participants and Audiences

  • The U.S. Embassy is only able to consider proposals that will be carried out at HEIs or research centers physically located in Indonesia. However, this does not preclude joint applications from U.S. institutions or entities working in partnership with an Indonesian HEI or consortium of HEIs.
  • Possible AWC audiences include but are not limited to undergraduate and graduate students, post-doctoral associates, junior and senior faculty, professional and scientific staff, researchers, and scholars in different academic fields.

Eligibility Criteria

The U.S. Embassy welcomes applications from:

  • Indonesian public and non-profit private higher education institutions
  • Indonesian public and non-profit private research centers
  • U.S. institutions or entities working in partnership with an Indonesia-based HEI or research center
  • Other Indonesian or international non-profit educational organizations, foundations, or associations working in partnership with an Indonesia-based HEI or research center
